This preconceived notion that diet is a one-size fits all is archaic.  It’s like putting a round peg into a square hole.  What works for my friend may not work for me.   I know it’s best to find the foods that work for me.

The average dress size used to be an 8, now it’s a size 16.

We’ve been spoon-fed the Standard American Diet for over 40 years, yet we’re fatter and sicker than ever!  Did you know that quite possibly your brain’s favorite fuel is ketones and not giving it enough fat has been found to be a cause of Alzheimer’s?  How about high triglycerides can be the result of a diet too high in carbs?

Did you know there are ways to treat diabetes and reverse it without the use of drugs from Big Pharma?

Health has always been an interest of mine.  I have subscribed to Prevention Magazine since I was a teenager. Always looking for new ways to grow and improve, stay healthy, keep germs at bay, and optimize my immune system and energy levels, I would read various articles, research studies, and view news segments.  If you follow me on social media then you know I share this enthusiasm with my followers.

Going Pescatarian allowed me to drop three dress sizes and increased energy while the hours spent on the Greenway helped me be more toned and stronger.  People told me I looked great, others I used to see on a regular basis didn’t recognize me, and often I was asked what I was doing to achieve my results.  Despite these efforts, my lipid panel did not improve much over last five and one half years.

When I saw my test results late this summer, I was disappointed.

My Tribe often teases me that I will outlive them all, yet with numbers like mine, metabolic syndrome ( a cluster of conditions — increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels — that occur together, increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes per Mayo Clinic) staring me in the face, I was heading down the road towards diabetes and heart disease.  Something had to change.

I was hearing chatter on social media and from friends about what they were doing to lose weight and improve the numbers on their lipid panel ( a blood test that measures lipids-fats and fatty substances used as a source of energy by your body. Lipids include cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) per WebMD). Intrigued, I ventured down the research rabbit hole to investigate the science.  The research studies and podcasts gave me the answers I needed.  After I pondered on how I was going to move forward with my health, thinking of the pros and cons, I made up my mind and jumped in with both feet.

In February I’ll have blood work done again and we’ll have the results of these new changes.  I know it’s important for me to discover which foods work best for me. As I continue on this health and wellness path, I would like to share tips with you along the way.

Mary Anne Radmacher reminds us to begin each day as though it were on purpose.  My dragon-loving favorite daughter, along with her two game-loving brothers, remind me every day why I’m on this earth. I love helping people and nothing would please me more than to help you to be the best you can be;  Be better today than you were yesterday.
